West Brom fans took to invade the pitch and taunted Wolves after beating them in Friday night’s much anticipated U23 PL Cup Final.

It was the Baggies under 23s who came out victorious and lifted the Premier League Cup trophy after beating their rivals, but it had to go down to spot kicks.

In what was described to be a thrilling final played in front of more than 7,000 fans (1,982 away) at The Hawthorns, the two sides finished with the scoreline at 2-2 draw after 120 minutes played.

Both teams missed a number of penalties as the shoot-out went to sudden death, though Ethan Ingram stepped up and won the final for West Brom, 5-4.

West Brom’s side included eight players who grew up within 15 miles of the Baggies’ ground, with Ted Cann (Manchester), Ethan Ingram (Gloucester) and Quevin Castro (East Anglia) the only exceptions, report Express and Star.

Majority of the first half saw Wolves dominate with the ball, only for the hosts to break the deadlock with a well worked goal, starting with left wing-back Zac Ashworth playing the ball to Tom Fellows on the right with Castro getting on the end of a cross sent in a buried the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Wolves, looking the get an equaliser, continued to show just how strong there were when it comes to possession, and this led to West Brom sitting back and counter.

Those in gold and blacks finally found their breakthrough, scoring after half an hour thanks to Harkin heading in from close range after Hugo Bueno’s cross.

The second-half saw both sides reluctant to give caution, with Baggies shot stopper Ted Cann denying Dexter Lembikisa, while Wolves’ Luke Cundle and Joe Hodge couldn’t score from their opportunities in front of goal.

Wolves thought they had won the game in extra time when Hugo Bueno fired home a sublime individual by getting past Ethan Ingram went into the box and saw his low drive effort go in.

But in the 110th minute West Brom got a leveller, Ashworth produced a long throw, Taylor flicked the ball on. and Mo Faal acrobatically turned the ball in.

West Brom (3-4-3): Cann, Hall (Williams 117), Taylor, Nguepissi, Ingram, Teixeira, Andrews, Ashworth, Fellows (Richards 70), Faal, Castro (Malcolm 81).

Wolves (3-5-2): Sondergaard, Mosquera, Marques, Hubner, Lembikisa (Bertwistle 113), Griffiths (Perry 75), Hodge, Cundle, Bueno, Harkin (Shabani 96), Campbell.

They thought they could win at the Hawthorns for the first time since 1996
They were singing about us getting battered everywhere we go
One of their players shushes us after he scores his penalty
But only one team was celebrating at full time 🤫😂💙 #WBA pic.twitter.com/vpm6AtAnfa
