Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg, the German champions’ board member for sport, Hasan Salihamidzic, confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has asked for permission to leave the club.
Salihamidzic, however, also reiterated that Lewandowski will not be allowed to leave the club this summer with one year still remaining on his contract.
In a post-match interview, Lewandowski spoke of his decision and how he sees his situation, telling Sky Germany:
“I can confirm that I spoke with Hasan [Salihamidžić] and informed him that my decision has been made. I will not be extending my contract with FC Bayern.
“Both sides have to think about the future. We have to find the best solution for both sides.
“I told Hasan that if an offer comes in, we have to think about it – also for the club. Both sides have to think about the future. That’s all I can say.”
Asked how he would react if Bayern denied him a move this summer, Lewandowski responded:
“Of course, I still have a year left on my contract. But I said that we have to find the best solution for both sides. We have to wait and see what happens.”
According to reports, Lewandowski wants to join FC Barcelona as early as this summer, with the Catalan club said to be ready to put €35-40 million on the table to sign the forward.
