According to South American journalist João Batista Filho, Charles Aranguiz is looking to move back to Brazil, his ex-employers Internacional Porto Alegre being the suspected destination.
The report suggests that the Chilean, whose contract runs till 2023, had a clause in his Werkself contract that allowed him to be released for free this year. The clause has supposedly expired and Aranguiz has handed a request to the Bayer board to re-enable the said clause.
Should El Principe be granted his wish, Seoane would lose a an important cog in the Leverkusen engine, and it would be interesting to see how the gap is filled. While a new signing is the obvious answer, Argentine midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who most recently has been frustrated with a lack of game time, could step up and consolidate his position in the starting eleven. Palacios himself is a candidate for a move away from the BayArena, but the departure of Aranguiz could convince the former River Plate man to stay.
