Borussia Mönchengladbach announced that they would host the Ukrainian national football team for a charity fixture on May 11th.

After Borussia Dortmund’s exhibition match against Dynamo Kiev raised some €400,000, German football’s other West Prussian club looks to stage its own benefit match in a little less that two weeks’ time. Gladbach announced on Friday that the foals will welcome the Ukrainian national team at Borussia Park on May 11th.
The friendly will constitute the first match for the national team’s program since the outbreak of the conflict with Russia. The Blue and Yellows can still hope to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. A single-legged UEFA semi-final playoff leg remains scheduled for June 1st. The winner of the playoff between Ukraine and Scotland will then face Wales in a qualification final on June 5th.
All proceeds from the match will be donated to refugee-related causes. Kick-off time has not yet been scheduled as, just like Dortmund, Gladbach wish to raise some additional funds by selling the broadcast rights. Tickets are nevertheless already on public sale via the club’s website. Anyone demonstrating proof of Ukrainian citizenship will be allowed in for free.
“We hope that as many football fans from the region as possible will come out for this match,” BMG managing director Stephan Schippers is quoted as saying on the club’s website, “in order to contribute to a good cause with their ticket purchase. All those fleeing the conflict can come free of charge.”
