Thomas Tuchel was full of praise for his players after Chelsea’s success against Palmeiras (2-1, after extra time) in the Club World Cup final.
After winning the Champions League and the European Super Cup, Chelsea added a big trophy to their showcase: the Club World Cup. The Blues dominated Palmeiras in the final. Thomas Tuchel sees this as a real feat: “Maybe this tournament isn’t as highly regarded in Europe, but once you’re here and experience it, you’re totally hooked. It’s a final! You don’t know the other team well, because they come from another country, from another Championship. So it was a huge challenge to play this game. We had a difficult semi-final against Al-Hilal, who forced us to give everything.”, he confided in a press conference. He considers the Blues to have deserved their success: “I think this victory, we deserved it, because we had a lot of chances. We never stopped trying. We were the most active in this game. This win is fantastic.” he continued.
South America have not won the competition since 2012, by Corinthians. Since then, every European club that has won the Champions League has achieved the double. Last year, Bayern Munich got the better of André-Pierre Gignac’s Tigers in the final.
