After much speculation in the transfer market regarding his future, French forward Anthony Martial moved from Manchester United to Sevilla on a loan deal until the end of the season. His move came as a result of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and interim coach Ralf Ragnick’s disapproval of his presence in the Red Devils’ starting eleven.
He was the subject of transfer interest from numerous other clubs, including Juventus. Now, the 26-year-old ex-Monaco forward has disclosed why he snubbed offers from few European big shots in order to force a move to Sevilla.
Speaking exclusively to Diario de Sevilla in an interview, the Frenchman revealed his goal until the end of the season with the Andalusian giants, who have granted him a playing field where he can showcase his talents.
“For me it was the right decision because I knew I was going to play and for me playing is the most important thing. Seville play very good football. I’m really happy to be here,” said Martial.
He then went on to name the clubs who were close to securing his signature.
Martial continued: “Big clubs tried to sign me. Yes, it’s true that Juventus tried to sign me and FC Barcelona spoke with my agent. But as I said, I spoke to my agent and told him that I preferred to go to Sevilla.”
Martial will be looking to etch his place in Didier Deschamps’s French squad for the World Cup at the end of the year. He has two goals in 30 appearances for France since his debut in 2015.
